Online Casinos Denies Breaching Local Labor Laws

Casino Enterprises, trading as Piggs Peak Online Casino, Managing Director, Howard Berchowitz, has denied allegations that its’ staff were forced to accept low retrenchment packages and that he had grossly breached labor laws in the process.

The South African managed, Microgaming powered online casinos, Swaziland based gaming site, Piggs Peak online casino, lost its battle to operate legally in South Africa recently and since then there have been numerous news sites accusing them of forcing their employees to accept low retrenchment packages.

Berchowitz, who is currently in the process of overseeing the closure of the online casinos by the end of October, 2011, denied the reports regarding the Piggs Peak casino retrenchment packages and said that he was amazed by the reports that the members of staff are furious about the voluntary exit packages. He added that these packages are double what they are meant to receive according to statutory law and that if they are not willing to accept what they have been offered, they will use the law to set the record straight and revoke their offer.

The Supreme Court of Appeal upheld an earlier ruling by the Gauteng Gambling Board which stated that the online casino was required to cease operating as Casino Enterprises had no license to operate in South Africa. This ruling was made despite the fact that Piggs Peak Casino is based in Swaziland and obtained a gambling license from the Kingdom’s authorities.

Piggs Peak’s customer base is made up of 90% South African players and the online casinos, therefore, had no option but to announce its’ closure by the end of this month.
